TEXT:       JOHN 13

INTRODUCTION:  the basis of leadership is people. An old proverb states “He who thinks he lead but has no followers is only taking a wall. If can’t relate with people, they won’t follow you. Relationship will make or break leader overtime

FOUR TRUTHS ABOUT LEADERSHIP AND PEOPLE

1 People are a church’s most appreciable assets.
2 A leader’s most important asset is people skills.
3 A good leader can lead various groups because leadership is about people.
4 You can have people skills and not be a good leader but you cannot be a god leader without people skills.

THE WAY YOU SEE YOURSELF IS THE WAY YOU SERVE YOUR PEOPLE

LUKE 10:30-37: Jesus told this story in response to a man who asked “who is my neighbor? He spoke of a man who was robbed and beaten alongside a road and left for dead soon a couple of religious leaders walked by but never stopped. It is likely they were on their way to some religious life activities. Then a Samaritan came by and helped the man, caring for him until he was well again. Jesus then asked who was the neighbor in this story?  He taught that relationships and ministry are not confined to your immediate circle of friends ( Luke 10:36-37) he taught that relationship are more important than many spiritual activities we practice (Matt 5: 23-24)
He also taught the truth below.

THE WAY YOU SEE YOURSELF IS THE WAY YOU SERVE YOUR PEOPLE

The story of the “GOOD SAMARITAN” illustrates how we treat others based upon how we see ourselves. Notice the difference way the victimized man was treated in this story.
THE ROBBERS
They used people. They manipulate others. They saw the man as a victim to exploit.

THE PRIEST
They were law keepers.  They were pure. They saw the man as problem to avoid

THE SAMARITAN
He was despised. He knows how it felt to be ignored, he saw the man as a person to be loved
As a leader you will be tempted to do all three of these, exploit, avoid, and love people every week in your ministry. The goal is look past their faults and sees their needs.

LEADERSHIP IS RELATIONSHIP

Year ago, several Christian leaders met together in a summit.  Their goal was to summarize the Christian faith into a single sentence. They actually took the goal a step further. They summarized Christianity into a single word. The one who they chose is CHRISTIANITY IS RELATIONSHIP.
What separates us from all religious in the world is the centrality of RELATIONSHIP. Our faith is built around relationships, not creeds or disciplines. Consider this, when Jesus was asked about the greatest commandment.  He said we’re to love the Lord with all of our HEART, MIND, SOUL, and STRENGTH. Jesus did not say; by this will all men know that you are my disciples that you have memorized fifty verses of the scriptures, instead he said that the way the world would know we are his disciples is how we handle our relationship. How well do we love people?
QUESTION 1:  Think of the most difficult people to love in your life. Why are they difficulty to love? How do you view them?
QUESTION 2:  how can you begin to see people the way the Samaritan saw the man?

“People don’t care how much you know, until they know how much you care” Dr John C Maxwell.

FRIENDSHIP /MENTOR-SHIP

Moses mentored Joshua. Elijah mentored Elisha. David and the mighty men (2 Samuel 23:8-33)
Barnabas and Paul (Act 9:27) Paul and Timothy (Act 16).
Jesus and His disciples, Priscilla and Aquila mentored the young convert Apollo (Act 18:24-28).
All of the above leaders were developed in relationship.
A recent Harris poll asked many American to name what they considered most important in life. Consider their response
Relationship 59%

Religious faith 21%

Making the world a better place 12%

A fulfilling career 2 %

Money 5%

Those Polled rated relationship as more important than either career or money by a ratio of more than ten to one. Consider how crucial relationships are to everyone.
1 A successful marriage depends upon the relationship between the husband and the wife
2 A happy home depends upon the relationship between the parents and the children and between the siblings.
3 A prosperous business depends upon the relationship between the employees and customers
4 A peaceful community depends upon the relationship between the neighbors
5 A successful political campaign depends upon the relationship between the candidate and the voters
6 A stable nation depend the relationship between the government and its citizens
7 World peaces depends upon the relationship between nations

8 one’s eternal destiny depends upon a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
